Dr. Geo & Gcompris for the Italian School
Vicenza, March 10 2005: In September 2004 a new Reform of School involving the primary and the secondary school of first degree (age 12-14) started in the Italian School.
A parallel process of training for around 150.000 teachers, based on the e-learning platform Indire PuntoEdu, is active in order to provide them the necessary skills.
From this point of view Ofset, as organization for the development of free software for education and teaching, established a collaboration with Indire along two main lines:
- working at the Italian live cd eduKnoppix (version 2.1) which was definitely released on March and which contains the Ofset software Dr. Geo and Gcompris.
- creation of educational materials for Geometry based on Dr. Geo. The first aim of these educational activities, in harmony with the suggestions contained into the text of the Reform, consist of emphasizing Dr. Geo's programming features.
